“Rust On The Gates Of Heaven” by Wear Your Wounds is out now and available at an independent record store near you and/or on your preferred digital streaming platform! The band is comprised of Jacob Bannon (Converge) on bass/vocals, Mike McKenzie (The Red Chord, Stomach Earth), Adam McGrath (Cave In, Nomad Stones) and myself on guitar and Chris Maggio (Trap Them, Coliseum) on drums.
Originally started as a solo project by Jacob, he asked us to play on the WYW record that came out a few years ago which lead to us coming together as a group to perform the songs live. We instantly had a great chemistry so we did some touring which lead to us recording a live performance of a few songs for the BBC. That performance was released as a record via Deathwish Inc. and the live interpretations of those songs, filtered through three guitar players working to keep the songs identities in tact but with the freedom to improvise all while doing our best to not step on each other’s toes musically or interrupt the original vision of the material, inspired us to write as a band in the direction of how those original songs evolved as we played them live. We wrote separately, submitting demos to each other and keeping in touch until it was time to get in a room together and rehearse/ fine tune as a team until we headed into the studio to record.
This record was a blast to put together and I’m psyched that the rest of you finally get to hear it! We recorded it in Salem, MA. at God City with the one and only Kurt Ballou In November/December of 2018. Ben Chisolm collaborated with us on the album as well by adding some strings, synthesizer and piano to the songs, helping to push the record into more cinematic depths at times. I’m honored to be a part of this collective of musicians and It’s really fun to play with two other guitarists in this band. Both Mike and Adam are incredible players and the fact that each of us bring something completely different to the table in terms of perspective and playing style is always inspiring to say the least, Chris is an amazing and intuitive drummer that I instantly connected with on a musical AND crazy person level and Jacob’s lyrics and vocals speak for themselves honestly, but also getting to jam with him playing the bass rules!
